GATE

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all-India examination that primarily tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science.

Candidates who have obtained/are pursuing their qualifying degree from countries other than India: i) must have completed or are in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree (duration: at least 4 years) in Engineering/Technology or; ii) must have completed or are in the final year of their Post Graduate (Master’s) degree (duration: at least 2 years) in any relevant subjects in science.

 

Note: If a candidate is pursuing any higher degree or has already obtained a degree higher than that mentioned in the above table, the candidate should select the minimum required qualifying degree while filling the application form.

 

Benefits

After the publication of GATE results, students are eligible to apply to individual Institutes for admission. Admission in the Institute is based on GATE percentile.

Results of qualified candidates in GATE will give All India Rank and indicate percentile score. For example, a percentile score of 99 means you are in the top 1% category of the candidates who appeared. Candidates who get less than 70 percentile get no scorecard.

 

During the pursuit of M.Tech/Ph.D., one is paid a scholarship of Rs. 5000 per month by the Government of India. This amount is enough for living expenses including purchase of books etc. the scholarship is paid for the entire period of M.Tech/Ph.D.
